Veterans Memorial Family School

Danette Sapowsky, Principal

Principal Danette Sapowsky is the principal of Veterans Memorial Family School in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. She is committed to developing the whole child through strong academic programs with highly qualified teachers. The school offers state-of-the-art technology, community partnerships (including the Food Bank of South Jersey, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, NJ Cares, and Bookmates, to name a few), and a focus on the social-emotional growth and development of every student. We offer a comprehensive athletic and intramural sports program, including a new soccer and biking program as well as a full-service School-Based Youth Services program. Programs offered at Veterans Memorial Family School are created with the entire family in mind. At Veterans, we believe that parents together -- with the school -- are partners in learning and ensuring student success.

Principal Sapowsky has served as the principal of Veterans since 2011. She previously worked as the principal of the George Washington Elementary School. Principal Sapowsky began her career as a kindergarten teacher at the Lanning Square School. She also served as a teacher mentor as well as a vice principal. She is now beginning her eighth year as a principal and her 31st year in the District.

Principal Sapowsky has a bachelor’s degree from Rider University and a master’s degree from Temple University. She has also completed post-graduate work and most recently completed a year-long fellowship at the Relay Graduate School of Education in instructional leadership under the instruction of some of the leading educators in the field. She is a Camden native and attended both McGraw and St. Joseph’s Pro Cathedral for her elementary education. She is one of six children all of whom attended elementary school in Camden.

Principal Sapowsky is committed to serving the students and families of this community and providing them with the most comprehensive experience possible in a safe and clean environment. Her roots are firmly planted in this city and this community. She is committed to realizing the Camden Commitment for the students and families of the Veterans Memorial Family School.
